Memories

Julie Law

Whilst the general tone of this website is light hearted Julie wanted us all to remember Timothy Clarke who tragically drowned trying to save a friend during the Summer of 1969.

Julie can remember having to stand under the hall clock during playtime as punishment for being late and feeling very smug as it rained throughout the whole break!

Neil Aitken

Neil remembers having to walk along Duck Street in 2's for school dinners in the canteen, going to school in "Just William trousers" and dancing to the "Gay Gordons" in the assembly hall. Finally, having to go the Nit Nurse - "but I ain't got nits miss"

John Leeding

John remembers the playground football matches, except that footballs or tennis balls were immediately confiscated so everyone had to develop their skills controlling a suitably sized stone.

Malcolm Heald

Malcolm remembers Friday morning assemblies with Mr Lawrence on his own and having to sing "Holy, Holy, Holy" over and over again because, apparently, we just couldn't get it right!
He also remembers Mr Lawrence's lost property, "Does anybody want this handkerchief? Make sure your mother washes it before using!!" he used to say.

Hani Edwards

Hani remembers wearing mittens attached to each other by a piece of wool that was fed through the arms of her anorak so that the mittens never got lost and could dangle from the bottom of each sleeve if she took them off. Gorgeous! She also remembers balaclavas in winter and huge bunches of keyrings hanging from zips on anoraks, which were the fashion. Or perhaps she was the only one doing that?!

Heather Marriott

Heather remembers Richard Tingle, the person sitting behind her in class, tying her long plaited hair to the back of her chair!

Chris Hill

Chris remembers The Bamboo Pipe Wind Band. With a little bit of searching on the internet it is now possible to hear it all again.

Keith Barnett

Keith can also remember playing in The Bamboo Pipe Wind Band on his trusty recorder during its one and only appearance at the Ritz Cinema.
His other memory is the early morning swimming lessons and then back to the classroom for breakfast.
